Princess Diana’s Ski Suit for Sale By Auction

An iconic red ski suit once worn by the late Princess Diana has gone up for sale at an auction house based in Beverly Hills.

Bidding has opened already for over 300 items in the ‘Princess Diana’s Style & A Royal Collection’ auction which takes place on June 26th at 10:00 AM PDT at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.

The Head designed suit, in which the princess was widely photographed, has an auction estimate of $30,000 – $50,000

The listing describes:

“A magenta nylon ski-suit belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana was famously photographed in the suit numerous times from 1985 to 1992: January 1985 in Malbun, Liechtenstein; February 6, 1986, in Klosters, Switzerland; April 7-10, 1991; and March 1992 in Lech, Austria. The ski suit has become a style trademark continuously referenced by fashion periodicals as well as a favored image to post on social media for the bold color of the skisuit and how Diana wore it with a braided head band and gold hoop earrings in 1986 or with a cropped bob haircut and thick black frame sunglasses in 1991.”

Princess Diana’s first trip to ski in Liechtenstein is believed to have been one of her first times on skis. She and Prince Charles went there so that she could improve her skills in peace, whilst the paparazzi were camped out in the usual Royal favourite resort of Klosters, expecting them there.

British designer Elizabeth Emanuel, famed for co-designing Diana’s 1981 wedding gown, has contributed select personal archival pieces and sketches to the auction and commented.

“Diana’s timeless beauty and style continues to inspire. I’m honoured to share these memories with the world.”

A portion of proceeds from Diana items will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK, honouring her charitable legacy.

Julien’s Auctions is the world-record-breaking auction house behind the $1.14M sale of Diana’s evening gown in 2023 and her $390,000 shoes in 2024.

Co-Founder and Executive Director Martin Nolan states, “This auction celebrates Diana’s elegance and enduring cultural impact.”
