Xscape Milton Keynes, home to the UK’s second oldest indoor snow centre, Snozone Milton Keynes, is celebrating 25 years of operations.
Standing at 44 metres tall, the complex is one of the tallest buildings on the city’s skyline. The building covers an area of 60,000 square metres which is equivalent to five and a half football pitches. The structural frame of the building contains more than 5,000 tonnes of steel, fabricated to exacting tolerances, to create its iconic curved roof. It’s accessible from London Euston station in under an hour, with trains leaving every 15 minutes. Alternatively itis just a five-minute drive from the M1.
Besides its Snozone indoor snow centre, the complex offers a number of adrenaline-fuelled adventures and also houses over 40 shops and restaurants. Additional leisure attractions include what was the UK’s first purpose-built indoor sky diving vertical tunnel, iFLY, which generates speeds of up to 165mph.
Opening in May 2000, Xscape Milton Keynes was the first of three Xscape centres built in the UK in the early ‘naughties’. Xscape Castleford in Yorkshire is still going strong with a second Snozone, however a third at Braehead near Glasgow was sold and rebranded over a decade ago and the indoor snow centre closed in 2023. Snozone’s operators have however gone from strength to strength and took lover operations of one of Europe’s largest indoor snow centres in Spain, now Snozone Madrid.
At Milton Keynes, Snozone’s ski-slope is one of the UK’s largest at 170 metres long by 60 metres wide, and it is covered in 1,500 tonnes of snow.
Xscape Milton Keynes is running a number of promotion to celebrate turning 25.
“This is a milestone anniversary for Xscape Milton Keynes, which over the past 25 years has become a much-loved destination for fun, adventure, and unforgettable experiences,” said Dan Murphy, Centre Director at Xscape Milton Keynes, adding, “The centre has become a vital part of the Milton Keynes community. It’s a place where memories are made, friendships are formed, and generations have come together to enjoy everything under one roof. We’re committed to ensure Xscape Milton Keynes continues to be a must-visit destination, and we have some exciting new openings on the horizon. Here’s to another 25 years and beyond.”
