Double Indoor Skiing World Records

Serial skiing world-record setter and website Skiresort.info founder, Oliver Kern, has set two new world records at Germany’s SnowWorld centre near Hamburg. Kern achieved 20,319 metres of elevation gain in 24 hours—his ninth world record—and also set a new one-hour record with 910 metres climbed via 24 chairlift rides.

The feat began at midnight on 7 October, with Kern using the detachable six-seater Doppelmayr chairlift to clock up 202 rides by 11 a.m. When the ski hall opened to the public, he switched to the platter lift, completing another 219 runs over nine hours. After 8 p.m., he returned to the chairlift for a final push, breaking the previous record at 11:29 p.m. and finishing his last descent at 11:45 p.m.

Despite freezing temperatures inside the hall, Kern endured the challenge with glove warmers and a hot water bottle.

“The support from SnowWorld Bispingen was fantastic,” he said. “Without their infrastructure and team, this wouldn’t have been possible.”

SnowWorld Bispingen, located in the Lüneburg Heath, is one of Europe’s most advanced indoor ski centres. It features a 300m slope, terrain park, toboggan run, and the only indoor detachable six-seater chairlift in Europe. The resort offers year-round skiing, professional instruction, and a full hospitality experience with hotel rooms and log cabins.
