A skier with autism who learned to ski on a Norfolk dry slope has taken bronze and gold medals at the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 this month.
Annabelle Lamb (26) took gold first in her division in the advanced giant slalom at the Games finishing three seconds ahead of the silver and bronze medallists from Belgium and France
Annabelle found skiing aged 17 on a family ski holiday when, she told the BBC, she “…felt there was nothing for her in life,” she then went to train on the dry slope at Norfolk Snowsports Club in Trowse, near Norwich.
“I’ve come from Norfolk, which has a dry slope, and going abroad competing against athletes who have mountains and snow – which I’d love to train on – and then to get gold is a nice, proud moment,” Lamb told the BBC, adding, “I like to shine the light on people with autism because we often get neglected in life, and think there is nothing there for us. That’s how I felt – then I found skiing.”
