A Top Family Ski Resort in the Italian Alps

Nestled between the soaring peaks of the Adamello-Presanella range and the tranquil forests of the Stelvio National Park, Pontedilegno-Tonale is a ski resort that effortlessly blends high-altitude adventure with family-friendly charm. With 100km of pistes stretching from the Presena Glacier at 3,000m down a huge vertical to the wooded slopes of Ponte di Legno at 1,200m, this Italian gem offers one of the most varied and scenic ski experiences in the Alps.

Pontedilegno-Tonale is not just famous for its guaranteed snow though, The wider region is known as the Val di Sole or valley of sunshine, because that’s a second great asset of the region – sunny slopes!

What also sets Pontedilegno-Tonale apart is the sheer diversity of its terrain. Skiers glide from the snowsure slopes of the glacier to the snow covered meadows of Passo Tonale, still a very good altitude, and can then descend on down the pine-fringed trails of the Adamello Regional Park, all without ever removing their skis. The resort’s universal ski pass covers all lifts in the region, giving visitors the seamless experience of skiing through multiple destinations in a single day.

Early risers are rewarded with “Alba in Quota,” or “Dawn at high altitude” to give its English translation. This is a magical sunrise experience high in the mountains. On select dates this winter (January 30th and February 20th, 2026 on the Presena Glacier, and March 15th on the Corno d’Aola slope) the lifts open early to offer skiers a front-row seat to the dawn breaking over the Alps.

For those who prefer their thrills after dark, Pontedilegno-Tonale delivers with night skiing  4 times a week. The Valena piste at Passo Tonale lights up on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while the Valbione piste in Ponte di Legno offers moonlit descents on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It’s a unique way to extend your ski day and soak up the resort’s lively après-ski atmosphere.

A Haven for Families

Pontedilegno-Tonale isn’t just for seasoned skiers, it’s a paradise for families. Passo Tonale, with its gentle slopes, wide open spaces, and tree-free terrain, functions like a giant ski school camp. It’s safe, sunny, and ideal for beginners of all ages.

Winter 2025–2026 marks the debut of Fantaski, a brand-new children’s area at Passo Tonale. This snowy playground features an indoor space with games, qualified staff, and a welcoming atmosphere for little ones. Located right in the heart of the resort, Fantaski is poised to become a favourite among families seeking fun and peace of mind.

In addition, every Wednesday at 5pm, the Valena piste transforms into a hub of joy with Fun Kids activities. Expect music, face painting, hot chocolate, and even a baby torchlight procession, a delightful way to end the day and create lasting memories.

Held inside an ice theatre carved into the Presena Glacier, this extraordinary festival features concerts performed on instruments made entirely of ice. The acoustics are ethereal, the setting surreal, and the atmosphere unforgettable.

Concerts take place every Thursday and Saturday, with this season’s edition running from January 10th to April 4th, 2026. It’s a celebration of creativity, nature, and music that adds a magical dimension to the resort’s winter offering.
