More Massive Snowfalls in Australia

The great start to Australia’s 2025 season continues with the second major snowstorm this month. Resorts are reporting up to 45cm so far with snow still falling.

The latest fall follows a huge dump totalling around a metre over 3-4 days over Australia’s season opening weekend, just over a fortnight ago.

It means some centres including Thredbo are already posting base depths of more than 90cm (three feet), with it looking likely the metre mark – the measure of a healthy base – being reached by the end of the month. It’s a state that’s quite rarely reached this early in the season and sometimes never reached all season.

Temperatures are low too allowing snowmakers to keep operating with highs below freezing during the day.  Falls Creek is pictured.

“It’s the kind of day where everything looks magical, and the conditions are only going to get better,” says Betony Pitcher, Falls Creek’s Field Marketing Manager.  “This weekend night skiing and boarding returns and we are getting ready for family fun as the school holidays approach.”

The country’s largest report, Perisher, woke up to 35cm of fresh snow on the stake this morning whilst the wild and wintry front that rolled in yesterday turned the resort into a winter wonderland.

Thanks to freezing temperatures overnight snowmakers were busy helping Mother Nature along with 87 snow guns operating across the resort.
